The Almanor Fishing Association held a board meeting last night via ZOOM. We unanimously agreed that it was in the best interests of the Lake Almanor Community to cancel our 2021 annual picnic.

The trust of our members, volunteers and partners will always be our top priority; to that end AFA will make every effort to contact everyone that has purchased a dinner ticket to offer you a refund. We have heard from numerous people that are electing to donate their ticket money to AFA and we appreciate your generosity. If you have purchased a ticket(s) and would like a refund please contact AFA via email @ almanorfishing@sbcglobal.net or mail your ticket to AFA  P.O. Box 1938, Chester, CA 96020 and we will mail you a check.

We have once again postponed our raffle drawing; a date, time and place for the raffle has yet to be determined. Tickets are still available online @ almanorfishingassociation.org until we run or of tickets or until the drawing .We will be adding a couple of items to the raffle so everyone has better odds of possessing a winning ticket.

The past two years have been life changing for many of us. The AFA board wants to insure our supporters that we remain committed to the Lake Almanor Community and Almanor's world class fishery. We are confident fishing will play a pivotal role in the healing process of our community. Today we will be ordering $12,000 of fish food to feed the 50,000 fertile Eagle Lake Rainbows that we will be receiving in late October. While we don’t want to minimize the devastating impacts of the Dixie Fire and COVID, the Almanor Fishing Association fish pen program will remain the “longest running most successful fish pen program” in the state.

From Hatchery to AFA Pens


Who would have imagined that this event would become so popular so quickly. Special thanks to everyone in this picture and a few that couldn’t make it to the barbecue. As you can see by the photo it was a cold wet day, in fact there was a winter weather advisory on June 11, 2017 with snow, wind and sleet at lake level. Not to be deterred sixteen boats took twenty-six Veterans fishing.   

In 2018 AFA joined guides, Field of Dreams, USFS, California Fish & Wildlife, PG&E, Chester Elks Lodge and fellow fishermen to host the second annual Veterans Fishing Day. Participants received a t-shirt and hat from AFA, Field of Dreams and Mike and Peggy Daly. After a day of fishing they attended a barbecue dinner at the Chester Elks Lodge. In 2018 we had twenty-seven boats take forty-seven Veterans fishing. A small raffle was help for the Veterans where gift certificates, custom made fishing rods and other items were awarded to Veterans.

In 2019 AFA, Field of Dreams and local guides hosted multiple fishing trips for Field of Dreams Veterans on Lake Almanor. Veterans were treated to two nights lodging, meals and a guided fishing trip. One of the participants who is a Vietnam Veteran and suffers from PTSD returned and informed us that his trip was one of the top five experiences of his life. AFA is honored and proud to provide these opportunities for our Veterans. Our Veteran fishing day held on June 23, 2019...So perfect !...49 Captains and 97 Veterans.
